Orthotics are devices which help correct biomechanical and structural problems with your feet and ankle. Orthotics are used to treat heel pain, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendoniitis, and a variety of other common foot and ankle problems.
There are several types of orthotics, and the device is made to suit your lifestyle and wardrobe.
Dr. Misako McLeod will first perform a thorough orthopedic evaluation checking your alignment from your head to your spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet. Then, your gait will be evaluated by having you walk at normal pace. Finally, a mold or a scan impression of your feet will be obtained. These molds or scans are then sent to a laboratory for construction of your custom made device.
When you orthotics arrive, Dr. McLeod will ensure the proper fit of the device to your foot and shoes before dispensing them.
Many common problems with feet and ankles can be treated with non-surgical methods such as orthotics, physical therapy, gait training and other gentle techniques. Patients are often surprised to find that sometimes their knee, hip, and back pain is improved or alleviated as well.
Orthotics are commonly paid for by your insurances. Dr McLeod’s staff would be happy to check with your insurance to determine coverage benefits.
